American ~ American style can be casual or formal, simple or elaborate. Design dates back to roughly the 1700's. A large variety of woods are used.
Shaker ~ The foundation of Shaker furniture design is hinged on usefulness and utility. Its clean, smooth lines have no excess adornment; the beauty of the wood is adornment enough. It offers a unique combination of simplicity, elegance and quality.
French Country ~ This style has many interpretations but is always centered around good food and drink, and a rustic comfort. Colors involved are earthy and washed-terra cotta, umber, blue, etc. And surfaces are natural-stone, tile, wood, and clay.
Contemporary ~ Style developed in the latter 20th century featuring rounded or softened lines and smooth surfaces. Often used as a generic term for anything without obvious historical reference.
European ~ European is a broad category for the traditional style and feel popular in many European countries. Generally has "historical" reference and includes Chippendale. Queen Anne, etc. | |||
